Zak's One Year in Recruitment

This time last year I was wrapping up and handing over my last files as a litigator.

After working in the legal profession for three years, I realised while I love law and the intensity of litigation; my passion didn’t lie with practising it.

What I enjoyed most about law was the opportunity to build and foster relationships with my colleagues and clients in the legal space.

So, with that, I decided to take the plunge and try something new.

I continued to study after finishing my law degree, this time in the human resources space.

Having worked as a lawyer and now studying in HR, I decided the right fit would lie somewhere where I could use my legal knowledge and work in the HR space.

The answer came in a Seek ad from empire group – the opportunity to work in the recruitment space in a legal context.

Fast forward to now, and today marks one year at empire group.

Recruitment has definitely come with its challenges, particularly in this candidate short market, but has also presented so many opportunities.

My day-to-day is working with lawyers, both junior and senior, to help them make their next move the right move.

I get to work with a range of clients in private practice, government and in-house, and on roles in all areas of law.

Thanks to the team at empire for making this year so rewarding and providing guidance over the past year as I navigate this new career - particularly Managing Partner, Michelle Sneesby.
I’m looking forward to many more years in recruitment at empire group!
