When was the last time you thought about your career plan?
Planning your career is a good way of thinking ahead and ensuring you are developing your skills at work. Here are some key things to think about when career planning:
1. What do you want in a career? Is it money? Is it to be at the top of your field?
2. What types of experiences do you want to have in your career? Are there certain projects you want to work on? A specific type of client you want to work with? What steps do you need to take to be able to do this?
3. Who can you talk to about your career goals? This could be your manager, an industry leader, or someone a few steps ahead of your career,
Life changes, and so do careers goals. Your career plan is helpful to keep your growing, but not something that should limit you.
Your career is your responsibility, and it is up to you to utilise development opportunities afforded to you in the workplace. And if your workplace isn’t giving you development opportunities, it may be time to find a new workplace.
