As human beings, we are all guilty of being biased. No matter how we were raised, our pattern-loving brains have all developed ideas of who people are and what they can do, based on characteristics they have.
We have conscious biases, that we are aware of and can monitor. But we also have unconscious biases, which impact the way we think and behave, that we may not even realise exist.
Working in recruitment, we are dealing with hundreds of different types of people every day. Therefore, it is a critical part of our recruitment processes to not let unconscious biases impact our decisions.
Yesterday, empire group undertook some workplace training where we spoke about our unconscious biases and how important it is to be aware of what is and is not acceptable. It is important to be aware of our decision-making, and the direction we are moving in as an equal employment opportunity workplace.
Connecting great people means getting to know someone beyond our unconscious biases. If you would like to read more about unconscious biases, you can visit the Australian Diversity website: https://lnkd.in/gqUzPSMW
