Our client is a highly successful, leading independent Australian law firm with offices across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. They have dedicated practice groups providing an end to end service.

The Role

This position will be working within the finance group reporting to the Financial Performance & Analysis Manager. You will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining financial accounting and tax compliance policies and practices, ensuring their alignment with Australian accounting standards, compliance with taxation legislation and other external reporting requirements.

You will be expected to deliver the best practice financial accounting management reporting focusing on:

  • analysis of business financial performance
  • balance sheet management
  • financial reports
  • ledger and process management

More specifically, your day to day duties will include:

  • Management of the general ledger including maintenance of the chart of accounts and data structures
  • Management of month-end close
  • Preparation of all general ledger journals including accruals and pre-payments
  • Preparation of periodic general ledger reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Management of cash flow and forecasting
  • Analysis of business performance including against budget
  • Preparation of periodic management accounts and associated reporting
  • Management of year-end close and provision of information for preparation of annual financial statements
  • Preparation of statutory returns and reports including tax returns, ABS and other surveys, FBT return, Payroll Tax return
  • Production and lodgement of monthly BAS
  • Production of Bank Compliance statements
  • Review and maintain the organisation's cash flow model
  • Management of profit distribution
  • Maintenance of the Finance internal control framework including appropriate balance sheet controls
  • Assistance with annual budget preparation

You

This position will suit a CA or CPA qualified professional with at least 2 years post qualification experience. In addition to this, you will also have:

  • A proven understanding of fundamental accounting principals
  • Technical accounting expertise and strong knowledge of accounting standards
  • Solid relevant experience, ideally within professional services
  • Strong time management skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work through tasks and problems autonomously and exercise sound judgement on when to escalate
  • The ability to interact with people of all levels and establish strong relationships
  • Strong attention to detail
